Day 1: Nairobi – Meru Bandas
Early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or airport and drive through scenic agricultural areas to Chogoria town for lunch. The journey offers views of local villages and farmlands before reaching the foothills of Mount Kenya.
After lunch, continue to the edge of the bamboo forest where the trek begins. Walk through the dense forest for about 10 km, enjoying the cool shade and natural surroundings as you gradually gain altitude.
Arrive at Meru Bandas in the afternoon for dinner and overnight camping. This is your first night on the mountain, allowing you to rest and adjust before continuing the trek.
Day 2: Meru Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite
After breakfast, begin your ascent with your trekking crew. The trail opens up to scenic views as you leave the forest behind and enter open landscapes with rolling hills and unique vegetation.
The route via Lake Ellis offers beautiful views of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giant’s Billiards Table. You will stop for lunch by a stream, providing a peaceful break surrounded by nature.
After lunch, continue trekking to Lake Ellis campsite. Arrive in the afternoon, relax, and enjoy the calm environment before dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Lake Ellis – Lake Michaelson Campsite
Today is more challenging as you gain altitude. After an early breakfast, start trekking across high-altitude terrain with expansive views and thinner air.
You will hike about 10 km, reaching a higher point before descending into the dramatic Gorges Valley. The landscape here is rugged and one of the most scenic parts of the trek.
Arrive at Lake Michaelson campsite for dinner and overnight. The setting near the lake provides a peaceful and rewarding end to the day.
Day 4: Lake Michaelson – Simba Tarn Campsite
After breakfast, begin a shorter trek toward Simba Tarn Camp. The trail is less demanding, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude.
You will cover about 5 km, taking around 4–5 hours. Along the way, enjoy views of the surrounding peaks and alpine terrain as you approach camp.
Arrive at Simba Tarn (4,600m) in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the early morning summit attempt.
Day 5: Simba Tarn – Point Lenana – Nairobi
Wake up early at around 3:00 AM and prepare for the summit climb. After a light snack and hot drink, begin the ascent under the stars.
Hike up the steep trail to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) in time for sunrise. The views from the summit are breathtaking and mark the highlight of the trek.
After celebrating, descend via Old Moses to Sirimon Gate for lunch. Later, transfer back to Nairobi, marking the end of your Mount Kenya adventure.
