So myself and the wife have just got back from 10days in kenya ,with a 3 day 2 night stay at ntuele camp in the maasai mara ,
What an absolutely amazing experience, it has been one on our bucket list for a while so I booked it as a surprise for my wife's 60th birthday .
From start to finish everything was spot on all the pickups /dropoffs the safari , our guide Geoff is great bloke ,very knowledgeable and knows the place like the back of his hand lol .
We were lucky enough to see the big 5 as well, although the leopard did leave it till the last minute before showing itself .
I would highly recommend Ravina Tours as they were spot on even with sending you whatsapp messages to let you know times and pick ups
Thankyou for an amazing experience

My 3 cousins sister and I went on a safari with Ravina Tours & Travels for exploring 3 day Masai Mara and 1 day National Amboseli.
Masai Mara was an amazing open plain, We were fortunate enough to witness the activities of lions, elephants, leopards, and various other animals.
Our guide was extraordinary, he was not only knowledgeable, but also intuitive. He seemed to know when to speak and when to let silence carry the moment. Enjoy an early morning game drive. This is the best time to see animals as they are most active in the cooler hours. The place greeted us with elephants framed by Mount Kilimanjaro. Within 3 days we were inspired, refreshed, and endlessly grateful our professional guide gave us the fantastic experience.

Our guide David was amazing - his knowledge of wildlife is incredible. On the first day itself, we saw Lion Pride from a close distance, the leopard was resting on the tree.
The Jeep car is very comfortable, perfect for photography with a pop-up roof. The lodge was beautiful, the food was delicious (morning picnic and evening sundowner was the highlight) and the staff were very friendly. I took the Balloon ride option - that's the cherry on top of the whole trip!
Everything was very well organized and communication was excellent. Those who want to go to Masai Mara, must consider Ravina Tours & Travels.

We were a group of 15 and traveled in two Landcruisers. From start to finish we had an incredible experience with Ravina Tours & Travels. The team was professional, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure every detail was taken care of. Our guide, Jack, was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife. We stayed at the Ntulele Camp which was newly renovated and had amazing food.
Seeing so many animals up close—including four of the Big Five—was an absolute highlight (the black rhino had a day off), and the way the guides ensured we had the best vantage points made the experience even more special. The trip was well-paced, comfortable, and truly showcased the beauty and diversity of the region.
I would highly recommend Ravina Tours to anyone looking for a great value for money safari adventure.

Ravina Tours & Travels organized for Our family safari in Maasai Mara and it was absolutely unforgettable experience. From the moment we entered the reserve, we were surrounded by the raw beauty of the African wilderness. The vast golden plains, acacia trees, and endless sky created the perfect backdrop for adventure. We were lucky enough to witness the Big Five, but the real highlight was seeing a lion hunt at sunrise a moment that felt straight out of a documentary. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made the entire experience feel personal and exciting, especially for our kids. Masai Mara gave us memories we’ll cherish forever. The cheapest most affordable way to experience a typical Kenya safari tour is taking a budget safari, they are entry level safaris. Spending hundreds of dollars viewing animals might seem a bit excessive in a case where you want to save your money. For just 250$, you can have a three day safari fro Nairobi to Masaai Mara, Tsavo or Amboseli parks that are of a low cost budget safari in Kenya. This type of trip may not include park entry fees and as much as this sounds great, there is always a catch to look out for, most of this budget safaris may end up giving you only one game drive as they are often rushed. At this price it is good to ask about the quality of your vehicle as you may end up getting old minibuses which are uncomfortable and give poor views.
You have budget camping and budget lodges within the budget category you have. Budget lodges are comfortable with proper beds and western bathrooms and might include large semi-permanent tented camps. The budget for a solo traveller usually starts around $500 per day. For a more cost effective option, parties of two are better as you are sharing the fixed costs such as the safari truck between multiple people in your party and the driver or guide. When you decide to share the truck with stranger, you can save unto around 12 to 27&. Private local suppliers safari is more expensive than private self drive option. To save more use a local safari company over international travel agent for your safari in Kenya.

What is Group Joining Safaris?
A Kenya group joining safari packages are essentially the type of safaris where you get to join other like minded travelers for a safari. This type of safari normally has a minimum of 4 pax and a maximum of 7 pax sharing same safari vehicle. This type of Kenya safari tour is the perfect option for solo travelers, as the overall cost of Kenya safari will be lower that going alone on safari.

Why Choose Group Joining Safaris?
One of the main reason as to why most people still prefers to have a group joining safaris is because it is cost effective.
Kenya Mid Range Safari Tours
This are the most famous popular type of safaris in Kenya, giving you an unforgettable experience and great accommodation. For a mid range safari in Kenya, visiting some of the big name national parks and reserves, you are looking to spend around USD$300 to 600 per person, per day. This includes three reasonable meals, game drives in a shared vehicle, accommodation in a comfortable safari lodge or camp. This vehicle is of good standards with an open sided jeep and a few guests, but equally it could be in an over crowded minibus. On this Kenya safari tour, depending on your itinerary you will most likely visit the big name parks like Mara, Amboseli, etc.
Try to find out how far from other camps you will be and where you will be staying. Your safari will mostly include accommodation inside the park, with great accommodation in mid range tented camps and lodges with private western bathrooms.
You will have a more experienced tour guide to provide optimal game viewing, your trips may also include internal flights and a comfortable 4×4 vehicle.
For your hot air balloon experience you will budget around 450$. During the height of the Great Migration, expect a hot air ballon safari in Kenya to cost more than shoulder season. This is an activity that you may optionally consider to get you out of the safari vehicle. The oversized basket is separated into four sections, each containing a bench which comfortably fits up to four guests. When shared in the company of loved ones, this is a trip that is famously known to be a highlight in your Kenya safari tour.
It is good to keep in mind that accommodations in the mid range for your Kenya safari tour are roughly two stars. They offer pool and spa services and amenities such as better food and wifi are available. In Masaai Mara National Reserve, mid range lodging accommodation options include Keekoroko Lodge, Mara Ngenche Camp, Mara Expeditions Camp and Richard’s Forest Camp. Other accommodation places like Tortillas in Amboseli, Naboisho Camp in Mara Naboisho Conservancy, Porini Camp in Amboseli located in Selenkay Conservancy and The Sands at Nomad offer great midd range lodges in Kenya.
Kenya Luxury Safari Tours
For your luxury Kenya safari package expect private charters, fine dining under the stars, world class lodges with infinity pools overlooking Savannahs, as this is the pinnacle of your safari travel. For a seamless comfort and indulgence, this choice is the best. Luxury safari package booked with a local operator typically cost from 600$ per adult per day to 1500$ and can go up to 5000$ and beyond. Charter flights offer internal flights which land on runways inside the parks, thereby, replacing longer internal drives. With a wide range of incredible safari accommodation, available to suit your luxury budget, Kenya does a perfect job curating and planning a well thought luxury safari. You will spend all your time in the very best luxury accommodation located inside the national parks and reserves. You will have the most experienced tour guide to ensure unrivalled game viewing as well as Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 safari vehicle and special photography trucks where required. Try booking with Kenyan based businesses where possible.
For a high end luxury hot air balloon safari in Kenya expect to spend around 480$ to 600$ for a standard experience. The reason why hot air balloon are set at high prices is because they have a limited lifespan and must be replaced after a specific number of hours. After about 850 flight hours, a balloon is considered out of function. You will enjoy a champagne breakfast, a private tour guide in English and other languages and views of the Big5 as you hover above the plains, forests and rivers. Expect to watch the awe-inspiring sight of the enormous balloons filling with fired air.
For your luxurious accommodation choices for a Kenya Safari Tour include hotels like Palacina The Residence & Suites, Giraffe Manor, Emara Ole Serena, Villa Rosa Kempinski, Sankara Nairobi, Hyatt Regency Pride Inn Azure, Karen Bixen Cottages and TradeMark Hotel just to name a few in Nairobi. The best safari lodges for a luxurious safari in Kenya include Elena collection, Sara Mara, Fairmont Mara, Ol Tukai lodge, Kilaguni and Amboseli Serena collections, Soroi collection and Finch Hatton’s Camp.
A safari in Kenya can vary extensively when it comes to cost, depending on your type of budget. It can be a budget safari, a mid-range safari or a luxury safari. In addition, the season of travel that you choose also affects the price of your Kenyan safari. For instance, during the high season, the prices are high, while during the low season, the prices are quite affordable and cheap.
Other factors that can affect the price are;
- Type of accommodation
- Private safari or a group joining safari
- Mode of transport ( Flight or Land Cruiser)
- Number of days
- Excursions during your stay
Kenya Safari Cost & Seasons
The Kenyan climate is amazing for your year round African beach and bush holiday. The best months for visiting Kenya are during the dry season from June to October and January to February when the climate is mild, mostly dry and game viewing is easy.
When it comes to planning a Kenya safari tour, this is usually the most frequently asked question. Kenya always ranks as one of the best destinations to go on a safari or relax in the white sandy beaches, however, it is not the cheapest, but what makes this country magical, is it caters to all types of travelers, whether you are on a budget, mid-range, luxury or ultra-luxury. What affects how much your safari in Kenya will amount to, is predicted by the type of accommodation you want, activities you wish to engage in, how long you are staying, whether or not you are doing a group joining safari or travelling solo, mode of transport and the season you are travelling in. For example if you travel in the rainy season, you will enjoy discounted rates from tour companies and hotels, but in the peak season the rates are usually high. A Kenya safari usually costs between $1,320 and $3,400 per person. Other additional costs you should consider are tipping and gratitude fees, international flights, optional activities, exchange rates and miscellaneous costs. Budget safaris are the best way and the cheapest to experience Kenya safaris tours, they usually range between $220 to $450. Mid-range are the most common packages picked by most tourists, they usually range between $350 to $600. Luxury Kenya safaris are usually for high end tourists, who want to stay in the best lodges, have internal flights between parks and order cooked food in their hotels and lodges instead of buffets, they usually range between $550 to $1500. If you book your Kenya safari with a local tour operating company, like Ravina Tours and Travels, you get the best offers, unlike if you do a self drive option or if you book directly with hotels and lodges. There are more ways you can save on costs, but using a local tour company is the best way.
Wet Season
In March, the weather transitions are quite quick from hot to wet and rain. This time the savannah often becomes a muddy landscape making some areas difficult to visit due to impassible roads. The selling point to go for this Kenya Safari Tour is that crowds are less and costs are usually lower. Game drives can be very challenging on muddy roads during the month of April that is one of the wettest and rainiest months of Kenya. If you are a photographer or a filmmaker visiting at this time of the month, be sure to protect your equipments from the rain. In the month of November despite the start of the short rainy season most parks and camps remain open while some close on the Laikipia Plateau. This time will still give you a great Safari In Kenya offering lower prices and less crowds.
Dry Season
For some best time to visit Kenya is in the month of September, In this period, it is less busy than peak season in August and the weather is incredible. If you like a beach holiday, the best time to visit is between October and February, with November being the most popular month. Between June to October, the long dry season is also good for your safari and beach holidays. It is best to avoid the beaches in the month of April and May, it is a long rainy season.

What to pack when going for your Kenya safari tours can be a daunting experience for anyone. This is because what you pack can make or break your safari and that is why, you need to consider things like the weather, local culture, comfort, activities and your taste in fashion. I will share items that you can’t miss to pack and documents as well. In terms of climate and weather, Kenya lies on the equator and has favourable climatic conditions for a safari adventure, however, if you visit in the rainy and cold season, you need to have comfortable shoes, a raincoat jacket, and warm clothes. If you are going on a safari in the dry season, light clothes such as t-shirts, vests, shorts, sun glasses and hats are highly recommended. In terms of clothes colors, it is advised to avoid bright and black colors and look for colors that blend well with nature and ones that won’t make wild animals feel like they are in a new territory. You can carry flip flops, for roaming around your lodge, but once you are out for a game drive, sturdy shoes are the best. Other accessories that will make your trip memorable include a good camera equipment, sun screen, bug repellant, a pair of binoculars, a scarf or bandana to protect you from dust, especially if you are in a 4×4 vehicle with an open roof for game viewing. Ensure you bring along at least 3 pairs of lightweight trousers, ones that are breathable and can also dry quickly. Stick to keeping your suitcase light and only with the most essential items. Go for what is functional, practical, layered and with suitable clothes versus what is most fancy or most expensive.
What Shoes to Wear on Safari in Kenya?
Wearing the appropriate footwear is a significant step towards planning Kenya safari tours. As most safari activities take place in early mornings during game drives, walks through lodges, or in some cases guided bush walks, comfortable and practical shoes are crucial.
For most Kenya safari holidays, lightweight closed-toe walking shoes or sneakers are the most appropriate shoes to wear. These types of shoes are comfortable when on long game drives, and protect your legs from dust, bugs, and rough terrain around camps or lodges. It is advisable to wear neutral colors, such as brown, green, or beige, as they are more likely to blend into the natural terrain and wildlife is less likely to notice them.
If your Kenya safari tours includes walking safaris or nature walks, then trail or hiking shoes with good grip are ideal. Trail or hiking shoes help you to walk well on rocky trails, sandy paths, or grassy plains that are common in most national parks, such as the Amboseli, Tsavo, and the Masai Mara.
Travellers can also pack sandals or lightweight slip-on shoes to wear while spending time in safari lodges or camps. It is always great to change into breathable shoes after the long game drives when having dinner or taking a rest at the lodge. It is advisable to avoid bright coloured and open-toe shoes while on safari. Bright colored shoes can attract insects, while open footwear is less protective against uneven terrain and thorns.
Always pack the appropriate shoes when going on a Kenya safari tours. That way, you are guaranteed comfort on your Kenya safari holidays. During early morning and evening game drives, the temperature changes dramatically. Lightweight fabrics and insulated foot pads make a huge difference on those days of long walks in the wild.

Being surrounded by the beauty of Kenya in the wilderness is amazing, but also knowing where to put your mind to rest is equally awesome after a tiresome day of long morning and afternoon game drives. Whether you are on a budget or are willing to spend, there are plenty of safari lodges in Kenya that you can pick from. Just because Kenya is a famous destination, does not mean that the same can be said about its safari lodges. I will share a number of the best rated safari lodges, but for precise information, I will urge you to contact us, so we can connect you to the best lodges in Kenya. They include, Angama Amboseli, the Angama is among the most luxurious lodges near Amboseli National Park. It offers views of Mount Kilimanjaro and you can spend time viewing herds of elephants with long tusks. It has a total of 10 luxury suites and you will spend between $1,775 to $2,650 for 3 nights. Next we have the Lewa Wilderness Lodge, characterised for favouring families. It is hidden away in the Laikipia Plateau, and famous for camel treks and aerial safaris. You will spend between $600 to $1200. We also have the Segera Retreat in Laikipia Plateau, popular for blending art, outdoor bathtubs, cultural experiences and privacy. Staying at this luxurious safari lodge in Kenya, you will pay between $1980 to $2,365. We also have Mara Nyika lodge in Naibosho Conservancy, it offers excellent cat viewing such as lions, cheetahs and leopards. This lodge has a total of six suites and offers night game drives. Kicheche Mara Camp is another highly rated lodge in Kenya, staying at this lodge means you have views that overlook the Olare Orok stream in Masai Mara National Reserve. Last on my list but not the least is Giraffe Manor, it is highly rated and normally booked up a year or two in advance. This list can’t be exploited fully, so I suggest you refer to us.

A common question often asked is “ where in Africa should you go to ?” Such a simple question with an even simpler answer “it depends on what you want to see “.The most popular three popular destination are : Kenya ranked at 23 %$, Tanzania ranked at 22% and third in place is South Africa ranked at 21%. If you are stuck or find it hard deciding where to go between Kenya and Tanzania , here are some of the things I would advice you to keep in mind when choosing your safari tour.
Kenya and Tanzania are neighbours located in the general region known as East Africa. Movies like Put of Africa and Disney’s classic animation ,The Lion King are well known to be outstretched from the savanna grasslands of both countries. Kenya’s most famous game reserve is the Masaai Mara National Reserve and Serengeti National Park In Tanzania.
Safari In Kenya Vs Tanzania
Both countries are famed for their wildlife and offer Big Five game drive viewing in most game reserves, however, they each have their own specialities. Kenya’s efforts for wildlife conservation surpass that of Tanzania . In Kenya there are 160 conservancies covering 6.63 million hectare, it is also home to 24 National Parks compared to Tanzania which has 19. Kenya also has Nairobi National Park and is the only National Park in the world located inside the city.
When it comes to comparing and deciding where to go between between the two countries, time of the year is the biggest factor. Kenya’s Masaai Mara is best from July to September whereas in Tanzania it is a good year round migration destination. The Mara – Serengeti eco-system is known as prime Great Migration territory and it spans across the Kenya -Tanzania border. Both countries are at a draw to The Great Migration, however the best place to view it is in Kenya’s Masaai Mara where the wildebeest cross the Mara River.Major unique species you will encounter on a Kenya Safari Tour is the first black leopard in over 100 years that was photographed in 2018 in the Northern Kenya’s Laikipia region. Other species you will encounter are Gerenuk, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra and Pink Flamingoes of Lake Nakuru or Tusker Elephants of Amboseli National Par.
Why sets apart a Kenya Safari Tour vs Tanzania Safari Tour is the opportunity to go for chimpanzee trekking in Tanzania’s Masala Mountains next to the well known famous Lake Tanganyika that is home to 1000 or so chimpanzees, or see tree climbing lions one of only two populations in Africa of Lake Manyara National Park.
If you are deciding between Safari In Kenya or in Tanzania, word out there is that Kenya’s Safari Parks have more edge. It is good to keep in mind there is no wrong choice, both countries are beautiful and there is much to do and see. When it comes down to everything and you really have to choose between a Kenya Safari Tour and a Tanzania Safari Tour, I would probably say that Kenya offers the best safari.

They lead the way to awesome landscapes, cultural experiences and great safaris that you will not find anywhere else on the continent. Additionally, tourists in Kenya enjoy more exclusive experiences such as off-road driving and night safaris especially if you are enrolled in a private conservancy.
On the other hand, Tanzania is ideal for travellers that are seeking more distant and extensive safari with a lot of privacy. At first, planning for a Kenya safari holiday may seem like an uphill task to achieve. This is mainly from the many tour operators that exists, safari distances that are to be covered and the many Kenya safari holiday destinations to choose from.
Its truly understandable being overwhelmed and confused when planning you Kenya safari holiday, especially during the initial stages. But don’t worry though! We are here to help with everything!!
The first step in choosing a safari is choosing between two main options, that is self-drive safari or a guide’s safari whereby everything else is arranged for you by a tour expert.
In case you opt to go for a safari, you have option of going with local tour operator, international or you can book directly with your accommodation of choice.
Well, lets go into all the pro’s and cons of each of the options mentioned above.
Besides, you can also choose either having a private or group joining safari. Unless you truly are in tight budget, the best option to choose for a safari is private one.
This allows you to have a more flexible schedule and also means that you wont be jostling with other strangers just for a photo angle.
-
In Kenya, there are parks which allows private safari to enter and you can enjoy game drives.
Just in a glance, a private safari is one of the ways you can ultimately save lots of money during safari. What you do is just simply rent a car, pay park fees and accommodations, then have your safari they you love it.
Sounds Great right? Oh yes! Whereas this is a good idea, there are some pros and cons that you may need to be well conversant with.
First and foremost, you need to think about how good you are at spotting wild animals. Can you be in position to spot bug five during your Kenya holiday safari?
Lets be true to ourselves. Unless you have experience in this or you are simply a naturalist, you can have chance of spotting animals, which actually is the main reason that you are in a safari in first place.
Spotting the animal when in a company of a local guide is what makes the difference. The guides have the local knowledge and are in constant communication with other guides which can make wildlife spotting an easier task in your Kenya Safari Holiday.
Another factor that you may need to consider is what budget you may have. Although self-drive safari may seem great and you save a lot of money from it, the amount you save may not be as you think once everything is summed up.
Generally, the ultimate part that is very costly when it comes to safari planning is the park fees.
As of 2025, the Masai Mara Park fees was $100 per person between January and June, and $200 between July and December. The costs above is only applicable within 12hrs.
Another key thing to note is that Private safari in Masai Mara was banned as from June 2024.
In order to Visit Masai Mara, you must use a licensed company who would be in position of providing vehicle and guide throughout your safari.
As you can see, when you sum up those costs and visit multiple parks in your two weeks Kenya safari holiday, the costs goes higher than you can even imagine.
The fees are similar if you book with local safari agency or you do a self drive. In most cases, the tour operator would combine park fees with the general safari price, so make sure to sum this all up when planning for a self-drive safari.
When it comes to your safari logistics, you will have to rent a 4×4 safari jeep. When you add the gas then to costs becomes significantly high.
If you still insist that you would love to go for a safari in a self drive, I have prepared a short DIY on the dos and donts.

Which Safari Lodges in Kenya are Underrated?
Most Kenyans visiting Kenya are known to stay at iconic luxury safari camps, but there exist a few underrated lodges that provide a similarly memorable experience with fewer crowds. These hidden gems offer travellers authentic wildlife experiences, making their Kenya safari tours more immersive and personalized.
A lesser-known yet great destination is Ol Pejeta Bush Camp in Laikipia. This intimate camp, which is situated in a renowned rhino conservancy, offers travellers access to spectacular wildlife, including endangered black and white rhinos, elephants, lions, and cheetahs. The small size of the camp provides a tranquil environment in which the guests can immerse themselves in the African wilderness.
Amboseli Porini Camp is another underrated lodge, which is located near Amboseli National Park. This environmentally-friendly camp is a partial property of the surrounding Maasai people and provides guided walking safaris and cultural tours as well as traditional game drives. Elephants, giraffes, lions, and numerous species of birds can be found in the surrounding conservation area.
The Ashnil Mara Camp in the Masai Mara is a luxury tented camp located close to the Mara River, allowing travellers to spot elephants and other wildlife right outside their tents. Another lesser-known alternative is Ashnil Samburu Camp, which is situated along the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve. The camps combine comfort and beautiful scenery while maintaining a more serene environment compared to larger, well-known lodges.
Ngulia Safari Lodge in Tsavo West National Park may also be an ideal destination for travellers seeking authentic Kenya safari holidays. This lodge is known for its sightings of leopards and the scenic view of a busy wildlife watering pool, where buffaloes, elephants, and zebras congregate.
Other underrated safari lodges in Kenya where travellers can get top-notch experiences with a deeper and more serene connection to nature include Kifaru House (Lewa), Segera Retreat (Laikipia), Sala’s Camp (Southern Mara), Tortilis Camp (Amboseli), Ololo Safari Lodge (Nairobi National Park), Soy Lions Bluff Lodge (Taita Hills), and the Emakoko (Nairobi).
Underrated safari lodges usually offer equally impressive wildlife experiences, just like the big ones, but at lower rates and with fewer crowds. Most of the underrated camps or lodges are located in private conservancies, with an emphasis on conservation and community participation. Underrated lodges allow visitors to have the same incredible wildlife experiences as the famous camps, only to enjoy a more intimate and low-profile view of Kenya safari holidays. Over the years, Kenya has become a major travel destination renowned for its diverse wildlife, rich culture, and pristine coastal beaches. One of Kenya’s popular attractions is the Masai Mara National Reserve, known for the Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the seven wonders of the world, which occurs annually between July and October as herds cross the Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. This is an experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Here are the major attractions that should be on your bucket list on your trip to Kenya;
- Masai Mara National Reserve
- Samburu National Reserve
- Nairobi National Park
- Kenya National Park
- Amboseli National Park
- The Great Rift Valley
- Lake Naivasha National Park
- Hell’s Gate National Park
- Lake Nakuru National Park
- Tsavo East National Park
- Tsavo West National Park
- Diani Beach
- Fort Jesus
- The Old Town
When to visit Kenya safari greatly depends on the wildlife viewing conditions, the weather, and your preferred experience while on your Kenya safari tours. Generally, the dry seasons are the best time for game viewing, because the animals congregate around water sources, and the vegetation is not thick, making wildlife easy to spot.
June to October, the long dry season, is the most popular time to go on a Kenya safari holidays. Most tourists come to the Masai Mara during this time to observe the iconic Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, about 300,000 zebra, and hundreds of thousands of gazelles migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara. The spectacle is known to be one of the most incredible natural phenomena in the world, offering a display of the “Cycle of Life”.
January to March is another good period to go on Kenya safari tours because the weather is warm and relatively dry. Wildlife viewing is also excellent at this time, and there are fewer crowds than during peak months. This is also a favorite time of the year, especially among photographers, owing to the clear skies and lush landscapes, which make it a great time for wildlife photography.
The rainy seasons are between April and May (long rains) and November and December (short rains). Heavy rain may make accessing the road within national parks a challenging task. However, during the heavy rain season, travellers can enjoy breathtaking scenery, lower costs, and abundant migrating birds to spot. Some travellers may also plan for a Kenya safari holidays in the shoulder seasons in late October to early December and January to February to evade crowds and enjoy a wide array of lodge availability.
Kenya is a very geographically diverse country, and as such, the wildlife can be spotted throughout the year, in areas such as the Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo, and Samburu. Nevertheless, going on a Kenya safari tour during the appropriate season will make your safari experience, depending on whether you want to encounter the dramatic Great Migration, fewer crowds, or lower prices. Overall, Kenya safari tours are rewarding no matter what season it is, though the dry months tend to provide the best wildlife viewing and top-notch safari comfort. We have come up with a 2 weeks Kenya safari itinerary below which highlights Most of Kenya’s beloved national parks and game reserves. In those parks, you are guaranteed to have the best safari experience.
These itineraries have been customized based on my personal safari experiences as well as the feedback received from other travelers. This is deep research into the topic so that I can bring in the ultimate of what Kenya can offer.
Day 1: Nairobi
Welcome to Nairobi! The first day in Nairobi is for you to be acquainted with Nairobi just before embarking on your safari.
Nairobi is not only the capital city but it also has a lot to offer as it is the gateway to some of world’s best nature reserves. Majority of safari agencies are located in Kenya and you are most likely your will start in Nairobi with pickup from Airport.
Depending with your set time of arrival in Nairobi, you may opt to have some activities or just go directly to your hotel to relax.
There is a lot which Nairobi city has to offer, either during the day or even night and it will solely depend with you. You may choose to relax in your lodge as you wait for your next day 2 week Kenya Safari Tour.
Nairobi at Glance
Nairobi is the largest capital city in Kenya and is a vibrant with the only National Park in Kenya. There are many activities that can be done in Nairobi for a day or even if you would want to stay some more days.
If you are just landing from short flight and would like to spend your time exploring Nairobi, I have highlighted some of the key things which you can do or where you can visit in Nairobi.
Day 2: Nairobi to Masai Mara
On this second day, you will depart early in the Morning after breakfast for Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the best parks to visit in Kenya.
This is a 6 hours’ drive and you will pass through amazing views of Great Rift Valley. This is the best place to stretch your legs and have some memorable pics before you proceed with your journey.
The Great Rift Valley is one of the largest valleys in the world and is ever changing thanks to the ongoing tectonic shifts.
Most likely you will stop over at Narok Town for fueling and few minutes stretching up. Narok is just 3.5hrs away from Nairobi and the closes town to Masai Mara National Reserve. In case you had forgotten to buy something while in Nairobi then this is the best chance you may have to do it.
Thereafter proceed to your lodge or camp, arriving in Masai Mara for check in and late lunch before proceeding for the afternoon game drive.
It normally takes approximately 5-6 hours from Nairobi to Masai Mara’s Talek gate, one of the main entry gates for Masai Mara.I highly recommend that your safari from Nairobi should start early enough.
This will allow you to spend more time for the afternoon game drives and evade having to reach the park when the night falls.
Accommodation options at Masai Mara
The Talek gate is strategically located in Masai Mara and it is closer to most of safari lodges and tented camps. This makes it the best place to stay as the lodges are just few kilometers from the main gate.
Another great place that one can stay is closer to Ololaimutiek Village and is much more closer to South of Talek. If you really would like to splurge, then it would be much better if you can have accommodations that are inside the park.
These types of lodges are always ideal for your safaris because of their proximity to wildlife. In these lodges, especially the ones along river banks, you may even spot some wild animals coming to drink water.
With this option, you must have your park entry fees paid in advance since you will be passing by the main gate for your Kenya Safari Holiday.
Day 3-4: The Masai Mara National Reserve Stay.
In your next two days, you will enjoy your Kenya Safari Holiday while at Masai Mara National Reserve. During your stay here, you will understand as to why it is the Most visited park in Kenya for your Africa Safari Holidays.
While in Masai Mara, the best time to start your safari is early in the morning when the animals are still very active. This ensures that you meet them at the right point in time.
Normally the reserve gate opens at 6 am and because of this, I recommend that you set up your alarm to wake you up at 5 am depending on your accommodation location from the gate.
You can plan for a packed lunch prior to your safari and have early morning breakfast as well. This will allow you to go and have a full day safari until when gate closes at 6pm
This will go along way in ensuring that you maximize your safari experience therefore increasing your chances of sightseeing in the park.
Although this would mean that most of your time would be spend in the safari jeep, I can attest to the fact that it is worth it. I once saw lion right Infront of me taking down wildebeest just before sunset. This was one of the best experience and unforgettable one and I still cherish that moment. So, what if I had left the park earlier?
Masai Mara park entry fees is always payable every time one enters the gate and if you could have gone back for lunch, it means that you could have paid for park fees twice.
After the full day game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Most lodges offers amazing meals and I can attest to the fact that this experience is truly unforgettable for your Kenya safari holidays.
Tips for Visiting Masai Mara
Anyone who has gone for safari to Masai Mara can attest to the fact that one gets unforgettable experience there. If it is your first safari trip to Kenya, then you might be overwhelmed with the number of animals just within your sight. I’ve seen travelers cry seeing large herds of elephants. It is an experience not worthy to be told but to be felt.
Whereas this experience is quite special, there are few tips I can give from my experience that can even make your Kenya safari holiday more special.
The first thing you need to understand is the type of clothing that you may require to park for your Kenya Safari holiday.
The savanna grassland might be quite chilly in the morning then weather becomes hotter in the afternoons. You can opt to pack light layers of clothing so that you can always adjust with temperature change.
Nevertheless, do not forget to carry a sweatshirt or a jacket with you. This is because by the time you are leaving your lodge, it might not be cold but once you go in search of animals, then it becomes chilly.
Another thing also to not is the clothing colors that you may need to pack for your safari. Neutral-colored option is mostly recommended as it not only reflects the sun light but also deters mosquito bites.
I also suggest that you should not forget to carry a mosquito repellant before going for any afternoon or evening game drive.
Day 5:Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha(Approx. 5hrs)
Today’s safari would take you approximately 6 hours and you will be driven through variety of roads from all weather to marram.
An early wake up will ensure that you get to Naivasha just in time for lunch and afternoon relaxation. This will also go in handy to ensure that you arrive before the night falls.
Once you arrive at your lodge, check in and thereafter have lunch before proceeding with the planned afternoon activities. There are many activities that can be undertaken in Naivasha including boat riding, a visit to crescent island, for walking safari experience whereby you can see wide variety of wild animals including wildebeest, gazelles and giraffes.
Accommodation Options in Lake Naivasha
There are many places in Naivasha that you can have a relaxing stay after your Masai Mara safari. This will Soley depend on your budget, whether you would wish to stay just by the lake or not.
I would suggest that you book hotel that is just by the lake side so that you can admire lake view and even capture birds as they are chirping close by.
Day 6:Lake Nakuru National Park
From lake Naivasha, proceed to Lake Nakuru for another Kenya safari holiday awaiting.
Lake Naivasha and Nakuru are not far apart but they offer amazing experiences.

Today, wake up early enough and have breakfast before checking out for another safari to Lake Nakuru.
Arrive in Nakuru just in time for another game drive. After your first game drive, proceed for afternoon lunch and thereafter activities of your choice.
Alternatively, proceed for another late afternoon game drive to have some more sightings.

One unique factor about Ol Pejeta conservancy is that it is less crowded than the rest of park in Kenya.
Indeed this makes Ol Pejeta Conservancy a special destination worth visiting.
Day 8:Ol Pejeta to Amboseli National park
Today, get ready for another exciting Kenya safari. It will take approximately 8 hours from Ol Pejeta to Amboseli.
Safari Itinerary
Wake up early enough for for today’s safari. It will take you 8-10 hours to get to Amboseli and therefore there will be alot of driving.
On your way to Amboseli, you will drive through Nairobi. I reccomend that you have stop over at Nairobi before proceeding with the rest of your journey.
Once you arrive at Amboseli, you will most likely get there just in time for dinner and then proceed to bed.
Accommodation Options in Amboseli
There are several places to stay while at Amboseli National Park.Generally, i would reccomend that you stay within the park during your Kenya safari holiday.
This would certainly reduce distance that you may need to keep up with between park and lodge if you would stay outside park.
However, going by this option would mean that you have higher price to pay.
Alternatively, you may opt for lodges that are just by the Amboseli main gates.
Day 9:Amboseli Full Day
After having full drive from Ol Pejeta, i believe now will be ideal time to enjoy full game drives and what Amboseli has to offer.
At glance, one of what Amboseli has to offer is the famous tusker elephants that have tusks weighing more than 50kgs.
Amboseli and Tsavo are close parks and both are known for the past large tuskers in the world.
Today’s Safari itinerary
For today, get ready for a full game drives at Amboseli National Park.
The gate at Amboseli National Park normally opens at 6am so ensure that you are up and ready for exciting safari early enough.

You can enjoy the afternoon lunch while having panaromic view of Mount Kilimanjaro at the background.

Just as we did at the Masai Mara, try to be at the park for more time as possible in order to increasing your chances of spotting animals.

Amboseli is known for its largest elephants that you can find anywhere else in the world.
