Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg & Fly to Hoedspruit
Your unforgettable safari adventure begins upon arrival at O.R. Tambo International Airport where you will connect to your included domestic flight to Hoedspruit. Upon landing at Hoedspruit Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your ranger and transferred to the luxurious Kapama Southern Camp, beautifully situated within the Greater Kruger wilderness.
After check-in and introductions to the lodge staff, take time to relax and settle into your elegant suite before enjoying lunch overlooking the surrounding bushveld. In the afternoon, meet your ranger for high tea before departing on your first thrilling game drive through the reserve. Explore the diverse landscapes in search of Africa’s iconic Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo — as well as giraffes, zebras, antelope, and numerous bird species. As the sun begins to set, stop in a scenic location for classic safari sundowners and snacks while admiring the golden African horizon. A short night drive follows, offering opportunities to spot elusive nocturnal animals before returning to the lodge for a delicious dinner under the stars.
Day 2: Rhino Conservation Experience
Today presents the highlight of your safari — a remarkable Rhino Conservation Experience that offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at rhino protection efforts. Before sunrise, enjoy coffee and light snacks before boarding a private safari vehicle and heading into the reserve with an experienced conservation team. Prior to departure, you will receive a comprehensive safety briefing along with valuable information about the devastating impact of rhino poaching and the ongoing conservation initiatives aimed at protecting these magnificent animals.
Once the rhino has been located, you will witness the careful darting process performed by a qualified wildlife veterinarian and conservation specialists. This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows you to participate in important conservation procedures including monitoring the rhino’s vital signs, assisting with positioning the animal safely, inserting horn microchips, administering medication, recording scientific measurements, and observing identification procedures such as ear notching. Depending on conservation requirements, de-horning may also take place as part of anti-poaching protection measures. Throughout the experience, the expert team will explain every step of the process and the importance of these interventions in ensuring the survival of rhino populations.
After the rhino has safely recovered and returned to the wild, return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. Later in the afternoon, enjoy another exciting safari game drive through Kapama Private Game Reserve followed by dinner at the lodge.
Day 3: Full Day at Kapama Southern Camp
Wake early for an optional morning safari drive led by your experienced ranger. Early mornings in the African bush offer some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities as predators remain active and the landscape comes alive with birdsong and wildlife activity. During the drive, stop at a scenic location to enjoy freshly brewed coffee and snacks while discussing the morning’s sightings with your guide.
Upon returning to the lodge, enjoy a hearty breakfast before spending the day at leisure. Relax beside the swimming pool, indulge in a rejuvenating spa treatment, or simply admire the peaceful surroundings from your private suite. The luxurious facilities at Kapama Southern Camp provide the perfect setting to unwind between safari activities.
In the late afternoon, gather for high tea before embarking on another game drive through the reserve. Each safari offers unique wildlife encounters and opportunities to experience the beauty of the African wilderness from a different perspective. Enjoy sundowners in the bush while watching the spectacular sunset before continuing with a short night drive in search of nocturnal species such as hyenas, civets, genets, and owls. Return to the lodge where a gourmet dinner prepared by the executive chef awaits you.
Day 4: Morning Safari & Departure
On your final morning, rise early for one last safari experience in the African bush. After coffee and snacks, head out on a morning game drive as the reserve awakens with the first light of day. This is an ideal opportunity to capture final wildlife photographs and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the wilderness before your journey home.
During the drive, stop once more in a secluded location for refreshments while soaking in the final moments of your safari adventure. Upon returning to the lodge, enjoy a hearty brunch before checking out. You will then be transferred to Hoedspruit Airport for your included return flight to Johannesburg, bringing your unforgettable conservation safari experience to an end.
