Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Your journey begins with a drive to Machame Gate (1,634m), where registration is completed before starting the trek. The trail passes through a rich tropical rainforest filled with towering trees, vibrant vegetation, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys and exotic birds. The gradual ascent makes this a comfortable introduction to the climb.
After a leisurely hike, you will arrive at Machame Camp (2,834m), where dinner and overnight camping await. This first day allows your body to begin adjusting to altitude while enjoying one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful forest zones.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After breakfast, the trek continues as you cross streams and ascend a steep rocky ridge. The landscape begins to change from dense forest to open moorland, offering expansive views of the mountain and surrounding terrain. The trail zigzags upward before reaching the Shira Plateau.
You will arrive at Shira Camp (3,749m), located beneath a dramatic semi-circular rock formation. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp, where you can enjoy stunning views and cooler mountain air.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
This is an important acclimatization day. After breakfast, you will hike toward Lava Tower (approximately 4,600m), gaining altitude before descending again. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adapt to the elevation.
From Lava Tower, you descend to Barranco Camp (3,901m), passing through unique landscapes filled with giant groundsels. The camp is considered one of the most scenic on the mountain, surrounded by towering cliffs and dramatic views.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
The day begins with the famous Barranco Wall climb, a steep but manageable ascent that rewards you with incredible views at the top. After crossing ridges and valleys, the trail continues toward Barafu Camp (4,600m), the base camp for the summit attempt.
This is a longer and more demanding trekking day, so rest is essential upon arrival. After an early dinner, you will prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
The summit push begins in the early hours (around 1–2 am), trekking through the night toward Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The climb is challenging but rewarding, with the highlight being a breathtaking sunrise at the summit overlooking the Great Rift Valley.
After celebrating your achievement, you descend back to Barafu Camp for rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On the final day, you will descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,828m). The walk takes about three hours and offers a relaxing end to the trek.
At the gate, you will meet your driver and transfer back to Moshi town, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro climbing adventure.
