Day 1:Nairobi
After breakfast in Nairobi, we begin the journey to Nanyuki Town for lunch, passing the equator on the way. From Nanyuki, we continue to the Sirimon Park Gate (2650m) to begin our trek. The trail takes you through lush montane forest, bamboo zones, and giant heather before reaching the moorland at Old Moses Camp (3300m). This is a gentle and scenic trek, ideal for adjusting to the altitude. Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp (3300m), where you will camp in a peaceful setting.
Day 2:Old Moses
After breakfast, we begin our climb to Shipton Camp (4200m). The track leads uphill, where we fork right at the junction and cross Ontulili River. As we continue, we contour through the Moorland and cross Liki North River, then climb up to the panoramic Mackinder’s Valley, offering spectacular views towards Shipton Camp. This surreal camp is located below towering peaks and glaciers. It is home to rock hyrax and sunbirds, adding to the beauty of the surroundings. Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp (4200m).
Day 3:Shipton Camp
Today’s highlight is the early morning climb to Pt Lenana (4985m), timed to catch the stunning African sunrise. The climb begins on frozen scree and continues on rocky tracks with minor scrambling. If you are lucky with clear skies, you may even see Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. The climb takes about 3-4 hours.
After reaching Pt Lenana, we descend to Minto’s Hut for a hearty breakfast. Following a short rest, we continue our descent to Mt. Kenya Bandas (2800m), passing through the beautiful Gorges Valley, with views of the Temple, Lake Michaelson, Mushroom Rocks, and the Giant Billiards Table. At the Bandas, enjoy hot showers, log fires, and a comfortable bed for the night. Dinner and overnight at the Mt. Kenya Bandas (2800m).
Day 4:Chogoria Bandas
After breakfast, depending on how you feel, there are two options: either take the vehicle directly from Chogoria Bandas, or descend on a broad track through bamboo and virgin rain forest for 10km to meet the vehicle for transfer to Chogoria Town. From there, you will be driven back to Nairobi, arriving by 17:00hr.
