10-Day Kenyan Safari & Beach Escape

Highlights

When planning an Africa Safari Trip, Kenya stands out as the perfect destination, offering an unrivalled combination of wilderness adventure and coastal relaxation. This 10-day itinerary has been crafted to give you the best of both worlds: the thrill of game drives in world-renowned national parks and the bliss of unwinding on pristine white beaches. From the sweeping savannahs of the Masai Mara, to the flamingo-filled waters of Lake Nakuru, the tranquil shores of Lake Naivasha, the elephant-rich plains of Amboseli, and finally the tropical haven of Diani Beach, this journey takes you across Kenyaโ€™s most iconic landscapes.

Your safari begins in the Masai Mara National Reserve, a place often described as the ultimate safari destination. For three full days, you will traverse its grasslands in search of lions, leopards, elephants, cheetahs, and wildebeest. Between July and October, the Mara becomes the stage for the Great Migration โ€” one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on earth. Even outside migration season, the density of wildlife here makes every game drive rewarding.

From the Mara, your adventure continues to Lake Nakuru National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its rhinos and vast bird population. It is a sanctuary for endangered species, from Rothschildโ€™s giraffes to pelicans and flamingos. After Nakuru, the circuit leads you to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater oasis in the Rift Valley where hippos wallow and fish eagles swoop. Here, you can enjoy a boat safari or a walking safari among giraffes and zebras on Crescent Island.

Your journey then takes you south to Amboseli National Park, known worldwide for its breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africaโ€™s tallest peak. Amboseli is called the โ€œLand of Giantsโ€ because of its extraordinary elephant herds, and the sight of these majestic animals framed by Kilimanjaro is nothing short of unforgettable.

Finally, after days of thrilling wildlife encounters, you will trade safari boots for flip-flops as you fly to the coast for a beach escape in Diani. Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in Africa, Diani is a paradise of turquoise waters, swaying palms, and endless soft white sands. Whether you want to snorkel among coral reefs, enjoy water sports, or simply relax at a luxury resort, Diani offers the perfect way to conclude your safari.

This Africa Safari Trip is ideal for travelers who want to experience the best of Kenya in a single journey: adventure, wildlife, culture, and relaxation. Itโ€™s the kind of trip that leaves you with a lifetime of stories and memories โ€” from lions in the Mara to cocktails at sunset on the Indian Ocean shore.

Details Itinerary

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, your safari guide will greet you and brief you on the adventure ahead. After breakfast in Nairobi, set out on a scenic five to six-hour drive through Kenyaโ€™s countryside. Along the way, youโ€™ll pass through the Rift Valley with stunning viewpoints before arriving at the Masai Mara National Reserve.

After checking into Zebra Plains Mara Camp and enjoying lunch, embark on your first afternoon game drive. The Mara is a wildlife paradise โ€” herds of elephants, prides of lions, cheetahs scanning the plains, and giraffes silhouetted against the sky. As the sun sets, return to camp for dinner around the campfire, soaking in the atmosphere of Africaโ€™s most iconic wilderness.

Accommodation: Zebra Plains Mara Camp

Wake early for breakfast and prepare for a full day of exploration in the Masai Mara. Today you can opt for a hot air balloon safari (extra cost) โ€” floating silently above the savannah as the sun rises is one of the most magical experiences of any Africa Safari Trip.

Spend the day on game drives across the reserve, seeking out the โ€œBig Fiveโ€ โ€” lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The Mara is also teeming with wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 450 bird species. Midday, return to camp for lunch and a rest, or enjoy a picnic in the wild.

In the afternoon, you may visit a Masai village to immerse yourself in the traditions of the Maasai people โ€” known for their colorful attire, warrior culture, and deep connection to the land. End the day with dinner and starlit skies at camp.

Accommodation: Zebra Plains Mara Camp

After breakfast, depart the Mara and travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Famous for its birdlife, the park is home to over 400 species including flamingos, pelicans, and cormorants. Nakuru is also one of the best places in Kenya to see rhinos, both black and white.

In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive that takes you around the lake and into the acacia forests. Look out for Rothschildโ€™s giraffes, waterbucks, lions, and leopards. Return to Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge

After breakfast, continue your journey to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Check into Sawela Lodge, where lunch awaits.

In the afternoon, take a boat ride across the lake (optional, extra cost), spotting hippos, fish eagles, and pelicans. Continue to Crescent Island for a walking safari, where you can stroll among giraffes, zebras, and gazelles in complete safety. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner.

Accommodation: Sawela Lodge

Todayโ€™s drive takes you south to Amboseli National Park, arriving at Kibo Safari Camp by lunchtime. After refreshments and a short rest, set out on your first Amboseli game drive.

Amboseli is a land of contrasts โ€” dusty plains, lush swamps, and the dramatic backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is most famous for its elephant herds, which are some of the largest and easiest to observe anywhere in Africa. As the sun sets, return to camp for dinner under the stars.

Accommodation: Kibo Safari Camp

Rise early for a morning game drive, when Kilimanjaroโ€™s snow-capped peak is most visible. Spend the day exploring Amboseliโ€™s diverse habitats: the swamps teeming with birdlife, the acacia woodlands where giraffes browse, and the open plains where predators roam.

Expect close encounters with elephants, buffalo, lions, and cheetahs. The park also supports rich birdlife, with over 400 species recorded. Return to Kibo Safari Camp in the evening for dinner around the campfire.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to the coast. Arrive in Diani Beach, consistently ranked as one of Africaโ€™s best beaches. At Southern Palms Beach Resort, youโ€™ll be welcomed with a refreshing drink before checking into your room.

Spend the afternoon relaxing on the soft sands, swimming in the turquoise waters, or simply enjoying the coastal breeze. Dinner and overnight at the resort.

Accommodation: Southern Palms Beach Resort

Today is at leisure to enjoy Diani at your own pace. You can indulge in water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, or kite surfing, or simply relax by the pool with a cocktail in hand.

The Indian Ocean coastline offers endless opportunities for adventure: deep-sea fishing, dhow cruises, or visiting nearby marine parks. In the evening, enjoy coastal cuisine at the resort.

Another full day in paradise. Spend the day soaking up the sun, walking along the beach, or enjoying spa treatments at the resort. Dianiโ€™s charm lies in its ability to blend relaxation with adventure โ€” whether you prefer adrenaline-pumping water sports or quiet moments by the sea.

As night falls, savor fresh seafood under the stars and reflect on the incredible journey youโ€™ve had.
