Day 1: Nairobi to Mount Kenya Trekking Experience
Your journey begins early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel after breakfast at around 6:30 am. You will travel north through Kenya’s central highlands, passing through fertile farmland and vibrant local towns. Along the way, you pass Karatina, well known for its busy open-air market, before continuing toward Nanyuki, a town located at the base of Mount Kenya. The drive offers scenic views of rural life, changing landscapes, and the gradual rise in altitude as you approach the mountain region.
From Nanyuki, you proceed to the Sirimon Gate, one of the main entry points to the mountain. After park formalities, you continue driving to Old Moses Camp, the first stop along this route. Upon arrival, you will have lunch while enjoying the peaceful surroundings and cool mountain climate. The area is characterized by open moorlands, unique vegetation, and clear views that introduce you to the beauty of Mount Kenya’s ecosystem.
After lunch, you begin your trek toward a scenic viewpoint. The walk allows you to experience the mountain’s flora and fauna, with opportunities to see birds, small wildlife, and distinctive high-altitude plants. The viewpoint provides excellent photo opportunities, especially when the peaks appear through the clouds. After spending time enjoying the scenery, you descend back to the camp and reconnect with your vehicle. You will then drive to Timau for dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy and Return to Nairobi
The day starts early with breakfast at around 6:00 am, followed by departure at approximately 6:30 am toward the conservancy. Upon arrival, you begin a morning game drive across its expansive landscapes, known for hosting a wide range of wildlife species. The conservancy is particularly famous for its rhino population, offering one of the best opportunities to see both black and white rhinos in a protected environment, along with other animals such as elephants, lions, giraffes, and various antelope species.
One of the standout experiences is visiting the chimpanzee sanctuary, where rescued chimpanzees are rehabilitated and cared for in a safe environment. This is the only location in the country where chimpanzees can be seen, making it a rare and meaningful experience. The conservancy also plays a key role in global conservation efforts, including protecting some of the last remaining northern white rhinos, adding depth and significance to your visit.
You will continue exploring and enjoying game viewing until around midday. After exiting the conservancy, you head to Nanyuki town for lunch before beginning your return journey to Nairobi. The drive back offers one last look at the scenic highlands before arriving in the city later in the evening. You will be dropped off at your hotel, marking the end of this memorable two-day experience.
