Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your Safari Trip in Kenya begins with a warm welcome in Nairobi. After a short meet-and-greet and briefing from your driver-guide, you set off on the Nairobi–Mombasa highway, watching as the city fades behind you and the countryside opens up. Along the way, you pass bustling roadside markets, acacia-dotted plains, and occasional herds of livestock tended by Maasai herders.
After about four to five hours on the road, you branch off at Emali town and head toward Amboseli. Upon arrival at the park’s entrance, your adventure truly begins. Even before reaching your lodge, the safari starts with en route game viewing. The open savannahs offer excellent visibility, and it’s common to spot elephants lumbering gracefully across the plains, wildebeests grazing in groups, or zebras crossing the road in front of your vehicle.
By midday, you arrive at Kilima Safari Lodge, where you check in and enjoy a delicious hot lunch. The lodge offers views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days, and its relaxed atmosphere provides the perfect place to unwind before your afternoon adventure.
At 4:00 pm, you set out on your first official game drive in Amboseli National Park. This is prime time for wildlife viewing as animals become more active in the cooler hours. You may encounter prides of lions resting in the grass, cheetahs scanning the horizon for prey, or herds of elephants making their way to waterholes. The park’s wetlands, created by underground rivers from Kilimanjaro, attract hippos, buffaloes, and abundant birdlife.
The highlight, of course, is Amboseli’s elephant herds. Nowhere else in Africa offers such close encounters with free-ranging elephants. Their size, gentle movements, and the majestic backdrop of Kilimanjaro create a photographic dream. As the sun sets, painting the sky with orange and purple hues, you return to your lodge for dinner.
Your overnight stay at Kilima Safari Lodge combines comfort and wilderness. From your room, you may still hear the distant calls of hyenas or the trumpeting of elephants—a reminder that the adventure continues even as you rest.
Day 2: Amboseli to Nairobi
Your second day in Amboseli offers two flexible options to suit your preferences.
Option 1: Early Morning Game Drive
Wake up at dawn for an early game drive. This is often the best time to see predators such as lions or cheetahs, still active after a night of hunting. The cool morning air and the rising sun create perfect conditions for spotting wildlife. Kilimanjaro is most likely to be clear in the early hours, offering magnificent views and photo opportunities. Afterward, you return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before checking out.
Option 2: Game Drive After Breakfast
If you prefer a slower start, enjoy breakfast first and then head out for a morning game drive. This allows you to see Amboseli in daylight, observing elephants, giraffes, zebras, and countless bird species against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro. After your drive, you proceed straight back to Nairobi.
Whichever option you choose, Amboseli delivers unforgettable encounters. Watching elephants silhouetted against the mountain, seeing flocks of crowned cranes fly overhead, or catching sight of a lion pride in the grasslands makes this final game drive one to remember. By late morning, you exit the park and begin your journey back to Nairobi. Along the way, you may stop briefly for refreshments or to stretch your legs. By early afternoon, you arrive in the city, where your driver drops you off at your hotel or directly at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. With that, your Safari Trip in Kenya comes to an end—short, but packed with iconic moments that define a true African adventure.
