Day 1: Arusha to Momella Gate – Trek to Miriakamba Hut
Your Africa Safari Tours trek begins early in the morning with a transfer from Arusha to Momella Gate (1,500m). After completing park formalities, start your trek across open grasslands where wildlife such as buffalo, warthogs, and elephants may be seen. The trail continues into montane forest, offering sightings of birds and monkeys, including the striking black-and-white colobus. Lunch is enjoyed beneath the iconic Fig Tree before continuing toward the towering cliffs and volcanic ash cone of Mount Meru. By late afternoon, arrive at Miriakamba Hut (2,514m), set in a grassy glade with stunning views of the surrounding plains and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. The trek takes about 4–6 hours.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut – Acclimatization Hike to Little Meru
After breakfast, the trail ascends steeply along a ridge, offering breathtaking views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Today’s trek provides some of the most dramatic scenery on the mountain, with chances to see buffaloes and colobus monkeys along the way. After 3–5 hours of trekking, arrive at Saddle Hut (3,570m), where you’ll spend the night. In the afternoon, embark on an acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,810m). From this smaller peak, panoramic views stretch across Arusha National Park and beyond, preparing you for the summit climb ahead.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit – Descent to Momella Gate and Return to Arusha
At around 1:30 a.m., begin your summit attempt. The trail climbs steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and then on to Cobra Point (4,350m). Reaching Mount Meru’s summit (4,566m) at sunrise is an unforgettable moment. From here, Mount Kilimanjaro often appears above the clouds, creating a breathtaking backdrop. The final stretch along a narrow ridge provides dramatic views of both the inner crater cliffs and the outer volcanic slopes.
After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest and brunch before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut and finally to Momella Gate. A transfer will take you back to Arusha, where you can rest at Kibo Palace Hotel and reflect on this extraordinary Africa Safari Tours trekking adventure.
