This 5-day Mount Kenya trek follows one of the most scenic routes on the mountain via Chogoria and descends through Sirimon. It is known for its beautiful landscapes, alpine lakes, waterfalls, and unique vegetation.
The route takes you through iconic spots such as Lake Ellis, Lake Michaelson, Mugi Hill, and the Gorges Valley. Along the way, you will experience diverse terrain, from forest and moorland to rocky alpine zones.
The trek is well paced to allow acclimatization and exploration. The highlight is reaching Point Lenana (4,985m), where you will enjoy stunning sunrise views from the summit.

Details Itinerary

Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi and drive through the eastern highlands to Chogoria town. The journey takes about 4 hours with scenic views along the way.

From Chogoria, continue by vehicle through the forest to the park gate where you meet your trekking crew. After registration and lunch, begin your hike.

Trek through open landscapes passing Mugi Hill before arriving at Lake Ellis Camp. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.

After breakfast, follow the trail across moorland as you leave Lake Ellis behind. The route gradually climbs and offers wide scenic views.

You will pass viewpoints overlooking Vivienne Falls and the Gorges Valley. The landscape becomes more dramatic as you approach your destination.

Arrive at Lake Michaelson Camp located near the lake. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite.

After breakfast, begin a shorter hike as you climb into the alpine zone. The terrain becomes rocky with fewer plants as you gain altitude.

The trail leads across glacial moraine with views of the main peaks ahead. The air becomes cooler as you approach higher elevation.

Arrive at Upper Simba Tarn for dinner and overnight. Rest early as you prepare for the summit attempt.

Wake up early for a light breakfast before starting the summit climb. The ascent to Point Lenana takes about 2 hours.

Reach the summit at sunrise and enjoy views of Batian and Nelion peaks. On clear days, you may even see Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.

After descending to Shipton’s Camp for breakfast, continue down to Old Moses Camp. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

After breakfast, begin your descent through moorland and forest zones. The trail is gentle and offers final views of the mountain.

The hike takes about 2 hours to reach Sirimon Gate. Take time to relax after completing the trek.

Meet your vehicle and transfer back to Nairobi, with drop-off at your hotel or airport.
