Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your journey begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate, where registration and park formalities are completed. After meeting your guide and crew, the trek starts through a dense rainforest filled with rich vegetation, birds, and monkeys.
The trail is gentle and allows your body to gradually adjust as you walk under the forest canopy. Rain is common in this section, so proper gear is essential for a comfortable start.
Upon arrival at Mti Mkubwa Camp, your team will have tents set up and meals prepared. After lunch, you will take a short acclimatization hike before returning to camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest behind and enter the heath and moorland zone. The landscape opens up, offering your first clear views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak.
The trek is steady and not too demanding, allowing for gradual acclimatization. As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes sparse and the terrain more rugged.
You will arrive at Shira 1 Camp, where you can rest, enjoy lunch, and take short walks around the area. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Today’s trek is relatively gentle, crossing the Shira Plateau with wide panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The terrain is open and offers excellent opportunities for photography.
Along the way, you may spot unique plants such as giant senecias, as well as views of Mount Meru in the distance on clear days. The hike is short but important for acclimatization.
After reaching Shira 2 Camp, you will rest before taking an optional acclimatization hike toward Lava Tower. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
After breakfast, you will begin a steady climb toward Lava Tower, reaching higher altitude to aid acclimatization. The terrain changes into a rocky alpine desert, and you may start to feel the effects of altitude.
You will spend some time at Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. This is a key day for adjusting to the altitude.
Barranco Camp is one of the most scenic camps on the mountain, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and giant groundsels. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The day begins with the famous Barranco Wall climb, which looks challenging but is manageable with guidance. Reaching the top rewards you with incredible views of the mountain and surrounding valleys.
After the wall, the trail continues with a mix of ascents and descents toward Karanga Valley. The route offers excellent views of Kibo’s glaciers and rugged terrain.
You will arrive at Karanga Camp in time for lunch. Later, you will take a short acclimatization hike before returning for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you will hike through a dry and rocky alpine desert toward Barafu Camp. The trail is steady, and the environment becomes more exposed as you approach higher altitudes.
Barafu Camp serves as the base for the summit attempt, with clear views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape. This is an important preparation day.
After lunch, you will rest, organize your gear, and have an early dinner. You will sleep early in preparation for the midnight summit climb.
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp
Your summit attempt begins just after midnight, climbing slowly toward Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak. The climb is physically demanding, but reaching the summit at sunrise is unforgettable.
At Uhuru Peak (5,895m), you will celebrate your achievement and take photos before beginning your descent. You will return to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
After resting, you will continue descending to Millennium Camp, where you will spend the night. This lower altitude provides relief after the summit effort.
Day 8: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through the lush rainforest. The trail is gentle and offers a relaxing end to the climb.
As you descend, you will notice the return of dense vegetation and fresh air. The walk is comfortable and enjoyable compared to previous days.
At Mweka Gate, you will receive your summit certificate and meet your transfer back to Moshi or the airport, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
