Day 1

Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park

Your safari begins with an early-morning pickup followed by a drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley.

Lake Nakuru is particularly recognised for its birdlife and populations of both black and white rhinoceros. The park’s ecosystem also supports giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and hippos.

After arriving at the park, you will have lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive. This first game drive provides an opportunity to begin exploring the park’s varied habitats and observe wildlife in its natural environment.

After the afternoon safari, return to your campsite or lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2

Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, depart for the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Kenya’s best-known safari destinations and part of the wider Serengeti-Mara ecosystem.

The reserve supports a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, zebras and wildebeest. It is also associated with the seasonal movement of wildebeest and zebras across the wider Serengeti ecosystem.

You will arrive in time for lunch before heading out for your first afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara. The afternoon provides an excellent introduction to the reserve as you explore its open grasslands in search of wildlife.

After the game drive, return to camp for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Activities:

Accommodations:

  • Gold Zebra Plains Mara Camp

Day 3 & 4

Full-Day Masai Mara Safari

Spend the next two days exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve on extended game drives.

After breakfast, head into the reserve with a packed lunch for a full day of wildlife viewing. The Mara is known for its abundant resident wildlife and is one of the destinations where visitors have the opportunity to search for the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros.

The reserve is also home to a wide variety of bird species. The source itinerary notes nearly 500 recorded bird species, including eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures, storks, bustards and sunbirds. This makes the Masai Mara particularly appealing to travellers who want to combine mammal viewing with birdwatching.

Your game drives will focus on observing wildlife while moving through the reserve’s different habitats. Since wildlife sightings are naturally unpredictable, your guide will determine the best areas to explore based on conditions and recent sightings.

Return to Zebra Plains Mara Camp each evening for dinner and overnight

Day 5

Masai Mara – Serengeti National Park

Today marks the transition from Kenya to Tanzania.

You will travel from the Masai Mara towards Serengeti National Park, crossing through the Isebania border. Because this is a long cross-border transfer, much of the day is dedicated to travelling between the two countries.

The journey also incorporates wildlife viewing. You will have a game drive in the Masai Mara during the morning before continuing towards Tanzania. Once inside the Serengeti, an afternoon game drive will take place en route to your tented camp.

The Serengeti is famous for its vast plains and diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeest.

Activities:

Accommodations:

  • Gold Enkirarai Wilderness Camp

Day 6 & 7

Serengeti National Park

Spend two days exploring the Serengeti National Park through morning and afternoon game drives.

The Serengeti is one of Tanzania’s most prominent wildlife destinations and forms part of the wider ecosystem associated with the Great Migration. Its extensive grasslands support large populations of wildebeest, zebra and other plains animals, alongside predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

On Day 6, your safari continues through the Serengeti with game drives designed around wildlife viewing and the changing conditions within the park.

On Day 7, enjoy a full day in the Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives providing additional opportunities to observe wildlife.

Optional experiences listed in the original itinerary include a visit to Olduvai Gorge and a hot-air-balloon flight, subject to availability and additional arrangements.

Return to Enkirari Wilderness Camp after each day’s activities.

Day 8

Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Begin the day with an early-morning game drive in the Serengeti before breakfast. Early morning is an important safari period because wildlife activity can be particularly rewarding around sunrise.

After the game drive, return to camp for brunch before continuing towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The journey brings you to the Ngorongoro Crater, a remarkable volcanic landscape with a large concentration of wildlife. The crater floor contains a mixture of open plains, wetlands and other habitats that support a variety of species, including buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, lions, hyenas and black rhinoceros.

There is also an optional opportunity for a walking safari in the Ngorongoro Highlands, depending on arrangements and availability.

Activities:

Accommodations:

  • Gold Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

Day 9

Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Manyara

Rise early for a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of wildlife viewing.

The crater floor offers an opportunity to explore a concentrated wildlife habitat surrounded by steep crater walls. Your game drive will take you across the crater floor in search of species such as black rhino, lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and hyenas.

A picnic lunch will be served near the hippo lake before continuing with afternoon wildlife viewing.

Later, drive out of the crater and continue towards the Lake Manyara area for your overnight stay.

The itinerary also provides an alternative to Lake Manyara: travellers may choose to visit Tarangire National Park, with the source itinerary recommending this option particularly from June to September.

There is also an opportunity to visit Oldonyo Sambu Maasai Village en route to Manyara or Tarangire, subject to arrangements.

Accommodations:

  • Gold Escarpment Luxury Lodge Manyara

Day 10

Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha

After breakfast, travel across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park for a full-day game drive.

Lake Manyara is characterised by lush vegetation, including acacia, fig and mahogany forests. These habitats support wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and hippos.

The park is also noted for its birdlife and its lakeshore setting. During the game drive, you can expect to explore areas along the lake while looking for wildlife and birds.

The itinerary also highlights Lake Manyara’s association with tree-climbing lions and flamingos, although wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

After the game drive, continue to Arusha, where the safari ends.

Optional activities listed for this day include a bicycle tour and night game drive, subject to availability and additional arrangements.
