We were looking for somewhere that would not let us down. My partner and I had reached that point where we didn’t need another busy weekend. At one point my partner joked that we had spent more time talking during the first few hours at Tausa than we had during the previous week at home. She was probably right, That was an unexpected pleasure of the trip. Without work, traffic, errands and our normal responsibilities competing for our attention, conversations seemed to last much longer.

Of course we couldn’t visit Tsavo and spend the entire time relaxing. We wanted to experience the wildlife and landscapes that make the region so special, so we set out to explore the area. The scenery caught our attention. Tsavo has a rugged beauty that feels completely different from the greener landscapes of some other Kenyan safari destinations. The distinctive red soil, dry plains, rocky formations and scattered trees created some incredible views along the way.
Wildlife sightings added another layer of excitement. We kept our eyes open for elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and predators as we explored. Every time we spotted something my partner would point it out before I had even noticed it. One particular moment had us both completely silent as we watched wildlife moving through the landscape in the distance. We didn’t even bother talking, we just stood in there taking it in.
Those are among the moments that I remember mostly. They reminded us that a safari isn’t always about getting the perfect photography. Sometimes its about simply being present when something beautiful happens in front of you.
Evenings Became Our Favorite Time Together
After spending time exploring Tsavo we were usually ready for a slower evening. Instead of looking for more entertainment we enjoyed sitting together, talking about the day’s experiences and watching the surroundings become quieter.
Dinner was another opportunity to reconnect. We talked about our favorite sightings laughed about the funny things that had happened during the day and started discussing places we wanted to visit together next. One evening we spent quite a while outside simply enjoying the atmosphere. There was no particular reason for us to stay there. We just didn’t feel like going inside.
My partner and I have traveled together beefore but this trip reminded us that the most romantic and memorable experinces don’t necesarilly involve elaborate planning. Sometimes sitting next to each other after a long day, sharing quiet moments and realizing how nice it is to have time without distractions. The feeling stayed with us throughout our stay.

What made our visit special wasn’t one spectacular event.
