My partner and I had been talking about taking a short break together for sometime together but finding the right opportunity wasn’t easy. We didn’t have enough time for a long safari or an extra extended holiday, so we decided to do something simpler. That was to book a few nights at a hotel in Nairobi and enjoy the city from a different perspective. That is how we ended up at Sarova Panafric Hotel.
We both passed through the Nairobi city center many times, but staying overnight gave us the chance to experience the area. differently. Instead of worrying about work, traffic and usual routines we decided that this trip would be about enjoying each other’s company and discovering the little pleasures of a city getaway.
Our arrival at the hotel felt like the beginning of a proper holiday. After checking in we settled into our room put our phones aside for a while and agreed that we weren’t going to over plan anything. For once we simply wanted to see where the day would take us. This decision turned out to be one of the best parts of our stay.
Our Room Became Our Quiet Place Away From Everything
After a busy week, one of the things that we appreciated the most was having somewhere comfortable to relax together. Our room at Sarova Panafric gave us the space we needed to relax and enjoy some privacy. We spent the first afternoon taking things slowly, chatting about our plans, listening to music and enjoying the feeling of not having to rush anywhere. One thing that I loved about travelling as a couple is that you don’t always need to be doing something exciting. Sometimes the best memories comes from the simplest moments. Some of these moments include having a long conversation, laughing over something silly, or deciding at the last minute that you would rather stay in a little longer.
We treated the hotel as our little home base while exploring Nairobi, but we also made sure to enjoy the property itself. Instead of immediately heading out whenever we had free time, we occasionally stayed back and enjoyed being together. It felt like a much needed pause from our normal routine.
Exploring Nairobi Together
Of course we couldn’t stay in Nairobi without taking advantage of the city’s attractions. The hotel location made it easy for us to explore different parts of the city and we enjoyed turning ordinary sight seeing into something special. One afternoon we decided to head out and explore some of Nairobi’s popular attractions. We took our time, took photographs together and enjoyed the freedom of not having to stick together and not having to stick to a strict schedule.
Later we found somewhere to enjoy a meal and spent a surprisingly longtime talking about our future travel plans. We started discussing destinations we’d like to visit together and even joked about which one of us would be responsible for planning our next adventure.
The conversation became some of my favorite memories from the trip. We also enjoyed simply driving through the city of Nairobi discovering different parts of the city. It reminded us that you do not always have to travel far to create new experiences with someone that you love.
Enjoying Dinner Togther
One of the things that we looked forward to each evenings was sitting down for dinner. After spending the day exploring Nairobi it was nice to return to the hotel, freshen up and enjoy a relaxed evening together. We didn’t treat dinner as something we needed to rush through. Instead, we took our time, talked about the day’s experiences and laughed about the little things that had happened.
Final Thoughts
As our stay at Sarova Panafric came to an end my partner and I both agreed that the experience had been exactly what we needed. We hadn’t traveled hundred of kilometers or spent days on safari but we had still managed to escape our normal routine. We had enjoyed comfortable accommodation, explored Nairobi together, shared good meals and most importantly created time for each other.
For couples looking for a romantic hotel stay in Nairobi I think Sarova Panafric can be a great option for a short city break, anniversary celebrations or spontaneous weekend together. What I remember most isn’t one particular attraction or activity. Its the feeling of having a few days where we could focus on one another without thinking about work and responsibilities.
I remember our conversations, our laughter, the meals we shared and the spontaneous decisions we made along the way. I remember sitting besides my partner and realizing that we had somehow turned an ordinary Nairobi stay into a genuinely special experience. By the time we were leaving, we were already talking about where we should go next and should be far away. Maybe we’d finally book that safari we’d always talked about. But regardless of where we eventually travelled our stay at Sarova Panafric reminded us something important. That you don’t always need an elaborate holiday to reconnect as a couple.
