We weren’t looking for a packed itineraryor a holiday where we had to rush from one destination to the other. All we hasd to do was get somewhere beautiful where we can relax and enjoy each others company and have a few days to ourselves. That i s how we ended up staying at Sawela Lodges in Naivasha. The drive from Nairobi already felt like the beginning of our little escape. As we moved through the Great Rift Valley the scenery outside the car became more beautiful and we gradually left the noise and pressure of the city behind. By the time we arrived at the lodge both of us were already in a complete different mood. Our first impression was how peaceful everything felt. The expansive grounds, greenery and open spaces immediately gave us the feeling that we had chosen the right place. We checked in settled into our room and almost instantly forgot about the busy schedules that we had left behind.

Our Room Became Our Little Retreat

After travelling the first thing that we wanted was somewhere comfortable to rest and our room gave us the exact thing that we were lookin for. It was a lovely space to return to afterspending time exploring Naivasha.We appreciated the comfortable surroundings and the privacy that they gave us especially because this trip was really about spending time together withiout the distraction of our normal routines.

Some mornings we didn’t feel like rushing out of bed. We simply enjoyed being together talking absolutely everything and nothing at the same time. We had our coffee slowly, made plans for the day and ocassionally changed those plans completely because one of us suggested that we should just relax a little longer. Those moments might sound ordinary but were exactly what we had travelled for.

Later in the day we emjoyed walking around the property taking in the greenery and finding quiet places where we could sit together. We took photographs, laughed at silly things and enjoyed the kind of conversation that are sometimes difficult to have when life gets too busy. It was so nice for us bearing in mind that we had no where that wer weer rushing to go.

Naivasha Gave Us Plenty Of Reasons to Leave the Lodge

As much as we enjoyed staying at Sawela we could not resist the urge to visit Naivasha without seeing the beauty surrounding it. One of our favourite experiences was getting onto Lake Naivasha. Being on the water together gave us a completely different perspective of the area. We watched birds flying aross the lake and admired the scenery around us and kept our eyes open for hippos.

There was something particularly romantic about siting besides each other on the boat surrounded by the calmness of the lake. For a while it felt like the rest of the world had dissapeared. We also enjoyed exploring natural attractions around Naivasha. The area offer plenty of opportunities for couples who enjoy being outdoors, from naturte walks to wildlife experiences and visits to nearby attractions.

What we loved most was that we didn’t have to plan every minute of our holiday. One day could be adventurous while the nest could be spent relaxing at the lodge. We could find a comfortable spot sit close to each other and watch the sky slowly change as the day came to an end.

At the same time we had plenty of opportunities to slow down and simply enjoy each others company.
